About the project

The project included the comprehensive demolition of the historic buildings of the former Wire, Pins and Nails Factory "Drucianka" in Warsaw, while preserving valuable architectural elements. The factory, founded in 1899 as the Belgian Joint-Stock Company of the Warsaw Wire, Pins and Nails Factory, was one of the most important industrial plants in Warsaw. Our task was to carry out demolition work while fully respecting the historic character of the facility, which was entered into the register of historic monuments in 2010. A particular challenge was the location in a densely built-up urban area and the need to preserve certain structural elements for later renovation. Thanks to the use of advanced selective demolition techniques and a comprehensive material recycling system, we managed not only to safely demolish the buildings, but also to prepare the area for the modern "Drucianka Campus" project, which will combine historical heritage with modern office and service spaces.

Challenges

  • The need to preserve the historic elements of buildings listed in the register of monuments, while simultaneously carrying out comprehensive demolition.
  • Location in a densely built-up urban area, requiring minimization of noise, dust and vibration during demolition work.
  • The need to effectively recycle a large amount of building materials, including bricks, steel and concrete, in accordance with the principles of sustainable development.

Our solutions

  • The use of precise selective demolition techniques, which allowed the preservation of valuable architectural elements intended for later renovation.
  • The implementation of advanced dust and noise control methods, including water curtains and acoustic screens, which minimize the impact of the works on the surrounding buildings and residents.
  • A comprehensive system for segregating and recycling post-demolition materials, allowing for the recovery of over 90% of raw materials for reuse.

Results

  • Safe and efficient demolition of the former factory complex, with full respect for its historical significance and architectural value.
  • Preparation of the site for the modern "Drucianka Campus" project, which will combine historical heritage with modern office and service spaces.
  • Recovery of a significant amount of building materials that were used in other construction projects, reducing the investment's carbon footprint.
